She also said that as the two sides jointly defend human rights and human dignity, the United States will further strengthen its friendly and cooperative relations with Taiwan.

“Last weekend, the people of Taiwan cast their votes for freedom, human dignity, and democratic government. Millions of Taiwanese proudly reiterated their insistence on freedom, openness, and democracy. Their courage inspires all people who love freedom. .

As we work together to defend human rights and human dignity in the region and around the world, the United States looks forward to further strengthening our strong partnership and friendship with Taiwan. “
Taiwan held presidential and legislative elections on Saturday. President Tsai Ing-wen was re-elected with a historic high vote. Shortly after the results of the presidential election were announced, US Secretary of State Pompeo issued a statement congratulating Tsai Ing-wen and Taiwan. He also praised Taiwan for setting a “shining example” for the world, and said that the United States and Taiwan belong to the same democratic family.
On Saturday, several co-chairs of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, the Taiwan Connection of the House of Representatives, and some congressmen all immediately congratulated Taiwan for successfully holding another democratic election.
